T-2 Womanhood
Lesson Scriptures: Titus 2:3-5
Titus
2:3–5 (ESV)
3 Older women likewise are to be
reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach
what is good, 4 and so train the young women to
love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure,
working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of
God may not be reviled.
1. Older Women, What They Are To Be – v.3
a. Older women are those women who had
reached the “empty-nest” of life. Children raised and gone – these women have
an opportunity to become “Mentors of Godly Womanhood.”
b. These women are to exhibit Godly
character/reverent behavior meaning – public behavior that represents true
Biblical womanhood. It was understood this reverent behavior would not consist
of…
i. Slander – this translated word comes from
the very word for Satan – diabilos. You are not to get caught
up in “tale-bearing” which indicates accumulating the juicy-bits of a false
storyline.
ii. Slaves To Wine – Evidently alcohol was a
social problem in Create. Alcohol is still a modern-day problem in families.
Wine mocks, strong drinks distort reality – do not become deceived!
2 2. Older Women, What They Are To Do – vv.4-5
a. By the power of a mentoring/friendship
relationship…
i. Discuss how to love your husband and
children
ii. Exercise self-control
iii. Remain pure – maintain the “oneness bond”
of your marriage
iv. Show them how to keep there nose out
another homes business – there is enough work in your home to keep you busy
v. Submission is not being a doormat.
Biblically it is “functional subordination. Encouraging your husband to succeed
and make Godly choices for your family
vi. Show them how to maintain a high standard
of God’s Word in your home
3 3. Younger Women, How You Are To Respond –
vv.4-5
a. Open your heart and spirit for friendships
of “older women.”
b. Their influence can be Godly and life
saving for your future.
c.
You
do not know all things and have not lived all things. Accept your limitations
and embrace Godly influence.
